Andreas Teufel | Head of Group
MD, PhD Curriculum vitae Andreas Teufel graduated from the University of Munich (LMU), Germany in 1998 and earned his M.D. from the University of Würzburg, Germany in 1999. His first clinical appointment was in the Department of Gastroenterology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Between 2000 and 2002 he conducted postdoctoral research on embryonic development at the National Institutes of Health, USA. In 2003 he joined the Department of Medicine of the University of Mainz, where he received his board certification and “habilitation” in 2007. Besides his medical and postdoctoral training, Andreas Teufel received his M.Sc. in bioinformatics from the University of Manchester, England in 2005 and his Ph.D. in biology from University of Mainz, Germany in 2006. Research summary Main focus of current and projected experiments is the identification of key regulatory genes and genetic networks directing gastrointestinal and liver cancer development. Besides, as a prerequisite of liver cancer development we have also become interested in liver fibrosis development. To carry out our functional analysis we have established a comprehensive database of genetic associations of individual genes with the development of cancer and liver diseases. These data now provide a rich repository for high throughput genome wide genetic analyses for these diseases as well as clustering for involved genetic networks. In addition, we are in the process of establishing multiple software tools supporting our genetic evaluations on a genomic scale. To validate key results in vivo we have established a complete routine of knock out mouse technologies and analyses, including tumor induction models. Furthermore, microarray experiments are of great help to us to evaluate our hypothesis on a larger scale. |
